Amie + Jam

Amie + Jam's Brighton Couple Photoshoot

Hello! Sorry for the radio silence. Wedding season happened so blogging didn't.

I moved from Birmingham to Brighton over a year ago + now it's hard to imagine living anywhere else. So I was beyond excited when Amie + Jam agreed to travel from the little town next to my old hometown to shoot with me in (my new hometown of...) Brighton. They'd never ever been to Brighton before (!!) so they spent the day checking out the ice cream + watching the World Cup final before we met up. It was so awesome to hear the familiar Black Country twang at the beach!

I absolutely love doing Brighton couples photoshoots a few weeks before the wedding. Spending a couple of hours with the people I'll be photographing makes it such a breeze to create portraits with a genuine energy on the wedding day... not to mention grabbing a few non-drunken-selfies in the process.

Amie + Jam are getting married at the amazing Dewsall Court. I don't know why I wrote that in the future tense. I've actually already photographed Amie + Jam's wedding but blogging is basically a full-time job so you'll have to give my time travelling sentences. Anyway... it was absolutely amazing + I can't wait to share those photos with you soon.

In the meantime, here's my first engagement session in Brighton since moving here + a few words from Amie + Jam on their engagement shoot:

"We've just sat down and looked at them and they are honestly AMAZING, I really don't understand how you've taken two very awkward people who don't like touching and made it look like we actually like each other haha... we are incredibly grateful and you are seriously talented, can't wait for you to be part of the day with us in a couple of weeks - we're going to have the best time!"

“The Pearheads”

Wethele Manor Wedding

Wethele Manor is one of my favourite marquee wedding venues in the UK. I’ve been to Wethele Manor a few times now… hit the link if you’d like to see more Wethele Manor weddings

It’s surrounded by miles of countryside + the sun always seems to set perfectly over the fields. One of the things I get asked on the reg is “What makes an awesome wedding?” + Betty + Ed’s wedding defines my answer perfectly. It’s the people. Wethele Manor welcomes over 140 guests for this particular wedding. Every single person felt like they knew Betty + Ed their whole lives + every guest felt involved physically + emotionally with what was happening.

With wall to wall blue skies, they obviously had to have an outdoor wedding ceremony. They had some great readings, with friends playing music + a massive sing-a-long. I never realised how loud 140 people could sing?!?

The speeches were epic. Like…Proper amazing performances. Including an epic self-written rap from one of Betty’s 9 (!!!!) bridesmaids. Extra bonus points to Betty for also writing + delivering her speech. I enthusiastically salute any Bride that delivers her own speech…I can’t believe it’s 2018 + it’s still “unconventional” for the bride to speak but a Groom’s speech is totally “expected”.

I guess I should start by explaining the first photo. Betty’s maiden name is “Pearson” + Ed’s is “Whitehead” + I’ve been really enjoying their abbreviated name: “The Pearheads” so it would’ve been rude to not include a photo of them being a pair of…pears.

Becca + Brad | RSA, London

RSA Wedding, London.

Becca + Brad chose to have an RSA wedding. The venue features typically grand London interiors + despite it’s listed building status – the venue even has a cool basement area where Becca + Brad chose to have their ceremony.

JESY + ANNA

Same Sex London Couples Photographer

i’mma annotate because i never annotate.

we started infront of a white wall because i wanted to make it a solid 10 on the awks-scale. no location distractions. just a room full of photographers watching me meet/work with a couple i’ve never met before.

oh… + there was a big surprise that nobody me + jesy knew about. so… 11 on the awks-scale.

chris barber workshop

we walked from the workshop location to barbican. jesy makes anna avoid walking over all the drains that come in threes, like this one. jo used to make me do the same thing. anna’s reaction to it was similar to mine.

this is a perfect example of how i use personal life experiences to influence + inspire interactions + photographs.

chris barber workshop

then we took some pictures. because y’know… it was a photography workshop + apparently that’s what i should be doing.

barbershop london

someone knew that “chris-i’m-always-shooting-yellow-shit-barber” was in town so they built a block of flats for me to shoot infront of. which was nice of them.

barbican couples shoot

+ then… this occurred in everyone’s eyeballs.

i could only hear the reaction of everyone behind me. it was a bizarre mix of “oh that’s so funny”, gasps + a few sniffles. anna experienced all those expressions in the space of about 3 seconds. i was gonna blog them all but this was my favourite.

barbican proposal

i’m used to photographing private stuff. i think this is the *only* time i’ve stepped back + thought it was more important for two people to ‘experience’ something fully rather than have it documented. i stood back with the rest of the group + just observed.

barbican proposal

energy > everything else in a photograph

same sex couple shoot

this sums up how jesy, anna + i felt after the shoot. i later summed it up as “some kind of emotional orgasm” – so yeah – that was my tuesday.
