Unposed, Real + Fun Wedding Photography

50 Fun Wedding Photos

This is a compilation of fun wedding photos from the last few years. “Fun” is a loose term I give to images that make me laugh along with the people in the photo or laugh at the story behind it. For me (personally) – I get the most creative fulfilment from shooting images that have an ‘energy’ to them. I don’t get particularly excited about photos that are just “pretty” – I like to shoot images that tell a story or really exaggerate an element of a persons personality. I shoot wide angle almost exclusively which forces me to be involved in the day rather than perving on it from the other side of the room.

Here are some photos for you to look at instead of doing whatever you should be doing.

So + Fabian – A London Pub Wedding

Islington Town Hall + London Pub Wedding.

I took the So + Fab “London Pub Wedding Tour” + referring to everything for the entire day as “SO FAB” didn’t get old.

So + Fabian’s relaxed London pub wedding started at home where So was met by her family + friends before heading to their ceremony at Islington Town Hall. After a short but sweet ceremony, all the guests made the short walk over to The Draper’s Arms to hang out + eat some amazing pub grub. There were a few awesome speeches + the sun blazed through the large open windows of the pub throughout which meant I had some really nice light to play with. Happy photographer! Most weddings I photograph have two venues (a ceremony venue + wedding reception) but not So + Fab! They’re SO FAB (not even sorry)! We all jumped in London cabs + headed to another cool London pub – The Blacksmith + Toffee Maker in Finsbury. The Blacksmith + The Toffee Maker is a trendy London pub with an emphasis on typically gourmet London food. Everyone sat outside + bathed in the warm September sunshine, talking the night away.

Hannah + Picky | Pub Wedding, Alderminster

Relaxed, Pub Wedding.

I photographed Hannah’s sisters wedding a few years back at the amazing Cripps Stone Barn so I already recognised loads of faces + knew it was gonna such a fun pub wedding in countryside. I love catching up with families I’ve met before at weddings – it’s like bumping into a bunch of old friends + getting to party with them all over again. This time it was Hannah + Picky’s turn. These guys made me feel like such an important part of the day + gave me total free creative reign to do whatever I like (literally the best thing you can say to any wedding photographer). They wanted laid back, fun wedding photography so I was able to get involved like any of the guests + photograph everyone just enjoying themselves + having a great time. Anyway…check this out… I literally got invited to go to the pub for a wedding. I took some photos + I didn’t even have to pay them to say this…

“Where do you even start with Chris Barber!? Argue with myself to decide what’s better… him or his photos! Chris you are simply amazing! We could not have asked for a nicer, more talented person to capture our wedding day, and my goodness did you capture everything about our day perfectly. We cannot get enough of our wedding photos, and pre wedding shoot pics. Everything has been beyond our wildest dreams. Can we get married again just so we can hang out with you again!? Thanks so much Chris!

Lots of love, The Picks”

Ria + Jordan | Town Hall Hotel, London Wedding

Town Hall Hotel Wedding.

this is ria + jordan. they got married at one of my favourite venues in london – the town hall hotel. it’s such a quirky venue with loads of cool wood panels upstairs + around the old court room. the reception areas are full of unique details + alternative decor, so plenty of stuff to keep my eyes busy.

jordan is really good at being funny + ria is a wedding photographer. i mean… ria’s funny as well but it’s important to note that she’s a wedding photographer because i am also a wedding photographer so that’s…like… a thing because it should feel like a lot of pressure but it doesn’t because i know how to use the word because a lot + because i hate starting new sentences.

here’s some photos, just because.

Claire + Tom

Woodland Weddings, Tring

claire + tom chose woodland weddings (tring) as their unique outdoor wedding venue. it’s pretty rare that i get to photograph an outdoor wedding ceremony but super fun when i do. outdoor ceremonies obviously get all the awesome natural light, which usually totally dies the minute you go inside a church or town hall. the whole day was in one part of the wood, so nobody had to worry about moving from venue to venue. a few guests even camped over night!

planning an outdoor wedding in the UK can be kinda risky…presuming you’re not a big fan of rain. so claire + tom did have *some* shelter in the form of an amazing tipi with cascading fairy lights + a freakin’ huge light up “OMG” sign. oh…and there was a swing! need i say anymore?

“Chris captured the whole essence of our day, the fun, the laughter and the love. When we got our photos back, we were both saying “how did he get that photo, I don’t remember him being there!”. He was so discreet, but then when he did interact with our guests, everyone loved him and felt really comfortable with him. After he got all the group shots, he just hung out with our guests and caught some hilarious moments from the speeches right through to the impromptu dance offs and silent disco. This guy has a unique gift for capturing emotion and we are so grateful we found such an incredible photographer.” – Claire and Tom

Charlotte + Dan | Curradine Barns Wedding

Curradine Barns Wedding.

Charlotte and Dan’s Curradine Barns wedding setting was a modern barn in Shrawley, West Midlands. It was such a fun day and even the weather played ball!

Charlotte got ready at Curradine Barns with her bridal squad, and the atmosphere was so calm. The ceremony was an intimate affair in the barn. The awesome beams of the barn framed the ceremony perfectly + Dan even managed to hold it together without crying. The reception was in the barn at the venue. They chose Curradine Barns because it has so many options and they just love it there. It was a fun wedding, which incorporated all sorts of quirky DIY elements. I love shooting Curradine Barns weddings because the surroundings are absolutely amazing. There’s such a variety of spots for photos within a 2 minute radius of the barn so I can get a really nice range of portraits.

They had a drinks reception in the afternoon, and a photobooth in the evening. Not just any live music but music by the one + only.Elton (kind of) John! They decorated the venue with so many quirky DIY features and tealights, because it’s so cosy.

The funniest part of the day was when the one + only Elton (kind of) John stepped up to play the night away, because he looked exactly like Elton + played a bunch of Elton bangers throughout the night. They also had a Doughnut tower cake, a popcorn machine + oven baked pizza during the party – it was so much fun!

Laura + Harry – Santa Maria Di Castellabate Wedding

Santa Maria Di Castellabate Wedding.

Back in the summer I was invited to be part of Laura + Harry’s Castellabate wedding. This whole wedding was *stunning*. I’ve loved photographing destination weddings recently. There’s something so exciting about getting on a place + heading to a location that’s totally different to where I usually shoot. I love working with new types of light, completely different architecture + meeting people from different cultures. I always arrive at least a day in advance (because air travel) which means I usually get to meet + hang out with my couples friends + families before the wedding. Meeting everyone in advance makes it feel like I’m a genuine part of the day, rather than just the “official photographer” which builds trust + means that guests feel more at ease in front of camera. I genuinely consider this group of people as good friends + it’s sort of awesome that ‘job’ allows me to see exciting new places, meet awesome people + create photos that make people happy.

This was the third wedding I’ve photographed for this group of friends. It started back in 2016 when I shot Liam + Maria’s laid back pub wedding, followed by Ria + Jordan’s London Town Hall Hotel wedding in London before this total feast for the eyes.

Jon + Oli | Syon Park, London

A Syon Park Wedding.

Jon + Oli got married at the stunning Syon Park, London. There was a concrete cake, plants growing out of every corner and neon lights. Oh and co-ordinating Alexander McQueen suits. They basically planned my own fictitious wedding. To top it off, it was the first wedding I ever got to shoot with my partner, Alline, who’s inspired me so much this last year. She’s an awesome person + photographer so you should definitely check her out!

Syon Park is a wedding photographers dream. The huge glass dome ceiling feels like you’re shooting the whole thing outdoors. Except ‘outdoors’ kinda felt like being in a sci-fi nerds dream land. That might’ve had something to do with the actual freakin’ tardis on one side of the room and the series of 80’s film figurines as table centre pieces.

“Chris is awesome and his style of photography is awesome. He’s such a nice guy and a fun person to be around so he put everyone at ease. He was the photographer at our friend’s wedding a few years ago so we didn’t hesitate or bother looking for anyone else and just hoped he was available. Luckily he had a couple of dates free so we got in there quick. We will cherish our photos forever.” – Jon + Oli

“The Pearheads”

Wethele Manor Wedding

Wethele Manor is one of my favourite marquee wedding venues in the UK. I’ve been to Wethele Manor a few times now… hit the link if you’d like to see more Wethele Manor weddings

It’s surrounded by miles of countryside + the sun always seems to set perfectly over the fields. One of the things I get asked on the reg is “What makes an awesome wedding?” + Betty + Ed’s wedding defines my answer perfectly. It’s the people. Wethele Manor welcomes over 140 guests for this particular wedding. Every single person felt like they knew Betty + Ed their whole lives + every guest felt involved physically + emotionally with what was happening.

With wall to wall blue skies, they obviously had to have an outdoor wedding ceremony. They had some great readings, with friends playing music + a massive sing-a-long. I never realised how loud 140 people could sing?!?

The speeches were epic. Like…Proper amazing performances. Including an epic self-written rap from one of Betty’s 9 (!!!!) bridesmaids. Extra bonus points to Betty for also writing + delivering her speech. I enthusiastically salute any Bride that delivers her own speech…I can’t believe it’s 2018 + it’s still “unconventional” for the bride to speak but a Groom’s speech is totally “expected”.

I guess I should start by explaining the first photo. Betty’s maiden name is “Pearson” + Ed’s is “Whitehead” + I’ve been really enjoying their abbreviated name: “The Pearheads” so it would’ve been rude to not include a photo of them being a pair of…pears.
