LAST WEEK, MY FRIENDLY DPD DELIVERY DRIVER GAVE ME A PARCEL. HE’S A NICE GUY + HE ALWAYS ASKS HOW I’M DOING + WE EXCHANGE A FULL 10 SECONDS OF SOCIAL INTERACTION - USUALLY COMMENTING ON THE FACT THAT I HAVEN’T CHANGED PYJAMAS SINCE MARCH LAST YEAR.

THIS TIME THOUGH, HE WOKE ME UP - SO I ANSWERED THE DOOR IN A BIT OF A HAZE. HE DROPPED THE PARCEL OFF + TURNED TO WALK AWAY

“SEE YA, CHRIS” HE SAID
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“BYE DADDY” I REPLIED.

YEP. I CALLED THE DPD MAN “DADDY”. I WANTED TO SAY “BYE DUDE” BUT I WENT FOR A WEIRDLY-OVER-FRIENDLY “BYE BUDDY” + THINGS PROGRESSED MUCH QUICKER WHEN “BUDDY” + “DUDE” COMBINED TO UPGRADE THE DPD DELIVERY MAN TO “DADDY” STATUS.

I DON’T KNOW IF HE HEARD ME AS HE WAS WALKING AWAY BUT THIS IS FURTHER EVIDENCE OF WHY I CAN’T BE TRUSTED WITH SMALL TALK, BANTER OR SOCIAL INTERACTION.
