HANNAH + ADAM

A Preston Court Wedding with a Fun, Vintage Carnival Vibe

A Preston Court wedding is always so full of personality and unique moments that make weddings there so memorable. Hannah + Adam’s wedding was no exception as they brought forward all of their individual, creative + super fun talents, along with bags of enthusiasm from their friends + family. Oh… + speaking of boundless energy….Wilbur (their dog) was also around for the festivities.

I’ll start by introducing Preston Court because it’s genuinely one of my all-time favourites + I could talk about it all day, everyday. Preston Court Wedding and Events is an absolute playground for me as a photographer – I don’t think it’d ever be possible to get bored there. It’s literally got a vintage carousel, for crying out loud!?

A Preston Court wedding is no one-trick pony, though. It’s a multiple-trick pony, if you’re into that sort of thing. Preston Court is a sprawling landscape that includes a manor house, beautifully curated gardens, a collection of smaller farm buildings in addition to a rustic barn with 17th century exposed beams + a massive restored art deco organ. Hannah + Adam opted to mix it up by utilising everything that Preston Court has to offer + then amping everything up by hosting an outdoor carnival/fairground in the Summer sun, which complemented the drinks canoe for some extra fun.

Preston Court Vintage Carousel

Once photos were over + all the guests were sufficiently fed + ‘hydrated’, we figured it’d be a good time to take advantage of the merry-go-round + merry-go-round we DID. Like 100’s of times. I didn’t know that I could have so much as I span around rising on a fake horse whilst staring into its hollow, lifeless eyes.

I was really excited to photograph their friends + family spinning around + it absolutely didn’t disappoint. I want a vintage carousel at every wedding now, please. The carousel was hosted by Colin, who turned out to not be a caterpillar but was actually some sort of circus master of the carousel. The day didn’t need any more razzamatazz but nobody ever OD’d on razzamatazz, so we soaked it all in.

Wedding venue and accommodation in Kent

Hannah + Adam chose not to see each other before the ceremony. Sometimes that can actually add to some of the tension + nerves that float around before the ceremony because both parties want to make sure they’re getting ready in a similar timeframe. They combatted this by getting ready in the same location, The Rose Yard in Kent. Everything felt relaxed + the setting allowed for so many fantastic photo opportunities.

With various converted barns, it meant that the bridal party were all based in the same place + could communicate easily whilst sharing the joys of petting Wilbur in the gardens. It was lovely to be able to jump between bridal + groom prep as the morning unfolded.

Outdoor Ceremony on Juliana's Island

Guests arrived on a red London bus + took their seats in the welcome shade of Juliana’s Island. Hannah pulled up in a classic VW campervan with her squad. Hannah and her Dad made their way across the hilarious little bridge (zero points for not falling in) + were greeted by Adam and all their friends + family. Sometimes, it can be hard to hear vows + readings during outdoor ceremonies, but Hannah’s theatrical background meant we could hear every word + contagious giggle. Drinks, games + canapes followed + everyone had a chance to refresh. Hannah + Adam wanted a more relaxed approach to their wedding photography, so we kept group photos to a minimum + allowed everyone to engage with all the fun activities on offer. This opened up opportunities for LOADS of candid photos, which had me beaming whilst I was editing the photos.

Kentish Barn Reception Wedding Photos

Hannah + Adam were cheered into the Kentish Barn by a sea of waving napkins before a series of off-beat, story-filled speeches that sent laughter reverberating around the 17th-century oak beams. The barn was beautifully styled in keeping with the vintage British countryside theme, filled with quirky typewriters, sheet music, miles of bunting + floral decor. The creativity + attention to detail was off the charts!

After the wedding breakfast, we seized the stunning Summer sunset for some portrait shots. Hannah + Adam brought bags of personality + energy to their portrait session + it was so lovely to take a stroll around all the hidden spots around Preston Court whilst unpacking the day so far. Their portraits are such a true representation of their character traits + overall relationship + I knew we couldn’t let the moment go by without getting more fun wedding photos with their dog, Wilbur. Wilbur was being looked after by Kings Pet Services for most of the day + I cannot tell you HOW excited he was when he caught a glimpse of Hannah + Adam. He’s not a small dog but he’s got the energy + enthusiasm of a hyperactive puppy + it was so fun to see Wilbur literally launch himself at Hannah when he saw her.

Vintage Barn at Preston Court Wedding Venue

The only thing spinning + swirling around more than the carousel at Preston Court was Hannah’s dress as her + Adam kicked off the evening with their first dance. Then the evening wound down + we all went to bed by 10pm. Just kidding… the fun kept on coming as guests piled onto the dancefloor whilst the smart ones discovered a mysterious vintage horsebox outside. After utilising my extensive detective skillset, I noticed the words “Pizza” in twinkly carnival lights on top of the horsebox. I began to think that we weren’t going to eat vintage horses, despite the horse box containing an authentic wood fire clay oven, which I was assured was added after it was used to transport horses. Under a canopy of over 1000 festoon lights, I began to realise that we were going to eat pizza. The pizza horsebox was great but pizza horseboxes are generally inedible so it was a relief that it also provided delicious Neopolitan pizza with handmade bread that they made with their hands, but it contains no hands. I couldn’t get horses OR hands as a topping but there were lots of other choices so it didn’t ruin my life because the alternatives were super tasty.

Sufficiently stuffed (as if I’d eaten a horse)… I watched Hannah + Adam’s friends tear up the dancefloor as a live band provided the soundtrack to the night. I saw shapes being thrown that simultaneously defied the laws of geometry + gravity + more shots getting shotted than shots I’d shot  on my camera that day.

“WE LOVE THEM SO MUCH!”

“Thank you so, so much!! We’ve just finished looking through. We love them so much! You captured the day so perfectly. We’ve had some proper belly laughs at the feral-ness that has been caught. Absolutely can’t wait to share them with literally everyone that has eyes”
