A Minimalist Relaxed Voewood Wedding in Norfolk

Voewood weddings always capture my imagination + creativity unlike any other Norfolk wedding venue. The exterior feels grand yet familiar (I definitely haven’t previously compared it to The Grand Overlook Hotel from The Shining) without ever feeling stuffy or overly formal. Despite its striking but classic presence, the interior takes everything you expected from a Manor House wedding venue + turns it upside down, inside out + then lashes you with neon. I spent the first 10 minutes inside Voewood in a constant state of double-taking every little oddity + eye-catching detail.

Over the last decade or so – I’ve come to know what to expect from inside manor houses, country houses, mansions + halls but Voewood like to do things with their own totally unique, off-beat flair that flaunts creativity, effortless cool, + alternative soul. Both mirrorball’s + classic dark wooden beams reflect the gleam from the Voewood neon sign as skulls, Bowie, + a vast array of quirky taxidermy watch on. With over 17 uniquely designed bedrooms + capacity for up to 300 guests + total freedom on the bar + catering – Voewood is an irresistible choice for couples planning an alternative wedding.

Voewood – A Quirky Wedding Venue in Norfolk

“Voewood was the first and only venue we viewed. We both found it online on separate occasions which had to be a sign. For us the venue had everything we wanted and more- it was a house for the weekend where we could make it our own with no timing constraints and so much flexibility. It was totally dry hire, which meant we could do exactly as we wanted, there were no staff, it was all ours so our guests could treat it like their own home.

It is so eclectic and artsy that it suited us so much and we booked it from Friday – Monday. The house was huge, and we had both immediate families and the groomsmen and bridesmaids and their partners stay. Each morning we came downstairs, we found extra people who had sneakily found a spare bed when the party finished, which we loved.”

Despite Emily declining one of their mutual mates trying to set them up countless times, Emily + Adi eventually met in their local haunt (The Friary) in the glorious city of Derby all the way back in 2010. 5 years later, Emily found herself on holiday with Adi in the (only slightly more cosmopolitan) New York with a killer hangover. They’d spent the day strutting around NYC when Emily noticed Adi on one knee alongside the Hudson River/Brooklyn bridge. He wasn’t tying his shoe laces but he was clutching a camera + a ring. “I thought he was getting a really unflattering picture of me from the ground I had no idea but quickly realised what was happening and just burst out laughing”, Emily says. Needless to say – Adi got the shot of her otherwise non-existent double chin + they both carried on with their lives. Just kidding…he proposed + she (thinks) she said yes. They spent the rest of the trip in secret newly engaged bliss, choosing not to tell any of their friends + family until they were back + spending time with them over Christmas. N’awww.

“UNOBTRUSIVE, FUN, COOL + REAL”

“We found Chris through instagram and instantly loved his style; unobtrusive, fun, cool and real. We were so sure that huge setups weren’t us, we wanted candid reportage, that showed how much fun us and our guests were having, and that’s exactly what we got from Chris. He was so nice, and a lot of fun to be around on the day, and we absolutely love our pictures.”
